Amine Derivatives

There are many derivatives of amines. Since nitrogen atoms in amine molecules can form hydrogen bonds with water, the solubility of lower aliphatic amines in water is relatively large. Primary amines and secondary amines, the amine derivatives, can form intermolecular hydrogen bonds, but because the electronegativity of nitrogen atoms is less than that of oxygen atoms, amines have weaker hydrogen bond association ability, and their boiling points are lower than alcohols with similar molecular weights.

The amines and amides are derivatives of chemical compounds too.

FAQs about Amine Derivatives

1

What are amine derivatives?

Amines is ubiquitous in the biological world and have extremely important physiological and biological activities effects. For example, proteins, nucleic acids, many hormones, antibiotics and alkaloids are all derivatives of amines. Most drugs used in clinical practice are also amines or amines derivatives.

What are the three types of amines?

Amine: A derivative in which the hydrogen atom in the NH3 molecule is replaced by a hydrocarbon group. According to the way that on, two or three hydrogen atoms of the ammonia molecules are replaced by hydrocarbon groups, they are divided into primary amines (1°amine), secondary amines (2°amine), and tertiary amines (3°amine). There is no hydrogen atom on the nitrogen atom of tertiary amines, and hydrogen bonds cannot be formed between molecules, so the boiling point is lower than that of the primary and secondary amines of its isomers.

What are amines and derivatives of amides?

Amines and amides are two compounds found in the field of organic chemistry. Although both types are composed of nitrogen atoms and other atoms, there are obvious characteristics and properties in amines and amides. The main difference between amines and amides is the presence of carbonyl groups in their structure. Amines do not have a carbonyl group attached to the nitrogen atom, while amides have a carbonyl group attached to the nitrogen atom.
